IEFC is a transnational network for scientific and technological cooperation aimed at the sustai-nable management of planted forests. Established in 1998 as an initiative of the Union of Foresters for Southern Europe, this multiactor association facilitates and coordinates collaborations between research, education and the forest sector. IEFC has supported since 2009 the EFI regional office for Atlantic regions of Europe (EFIATLANTIC) and since 2018 the EFI facility for planted forests.
IEFC brings together more than 40 members including research institutes, technical centres, universities and engineering schools, and forest sector organisations. Any organisation and legal body can become a full or associate member of IEFC and participate in networking activities (thematic groups, events ..) as well as in the preparation and implementation of collaborative research and development projects. IEFC membership provides access to a broad scientific and technological expertise.
IEFC promotes sharing of experiences and capacities between its members and with other actors involved in the sustainable management and use of planted forests in 5 countries (France, Ireland, Portugal, Spain, United Kingdom) and Atlantic regions of Europe, of which Nouvelle Aquitaine (France) and Euskadi (Spain) are particularly significant. This geographic scale is especially pertinent for the development of concerted actions to adapt forest systems to global changes.
