Considering the current world situation regarding climate changes and the announced fossil fuel crises, Ireland has established a new strategy for its future energy. This country strongly depends on importation to answer its growing energy needs. The production of renewable energy is still not important enough. Researchers are starting to develop ocean energy which is a considerable energy resource and that already allowed the foundation of innovative companies. More generally,the Irish energy policy is guided by multi-year strategic plans which set objectives and means.

… The Sustainable Energy Sub-Programme set a production of electricity from renewable energy of 15% until 2010 – against 5,6% in 2006. The investment will be done on the wind energy on a large scale, on the support given to the biomass energy and on the development of the ocean energy. The increase of the energy efficiency at all levels is one of the objectives of this programme which will also develop pilot projects at a small scale…
